twinkle, twinkle, no more stars.

so i’ve been talking for a while now about a project i’ve been working on and i’m finally ready to unveil it!!! i had the fun opportunity to re-do my husband’s childhood bedroom at his parents house. it had glow-in-the-dark plastic stars all over the walls, and things from all the many different stages of his life. it was a small budget project so i did a lot of work on the room myself – for example painting furniture, making the headboard, reupholstering the chair, etc. this was a great way to save money and re-use items he already had but it took a lot of time. i have been really anticipating the opportunity to show you the finished result!

i changed the wall color from green to a light blue (white satin by benjamin moore) and replaced the cornice and blinds with shutters. i found the old window pane on the wall at an antique store for $7

i painted and distressed this laminate dresser and painted the mirror.

this headboard is made from a door i got at the habitat for humanity re-use center for $5. i added molding and then painted and distressed it.

the night stands on either side of the bed were pulled in from another room

Ahh Yay you are done! And it looks incredible :)

  6. SO BEAUTIFUL! I love the little touches and pops of color you added. It’s fun that you got to have some input to at a room where you probably stay and visit too! Not that your design isn’t pretty enough, but Katherine did a great job at the photography and I remember from selling our house, professional pictures always makes everything look that much more polished.

  7. Way to go Katie!! This looks wonderful! I know you’ve worked hard on this project, but it surely paid off, didn’t it? The room looks wonderful! I love the way that you pay tribute to Paul’s life in this room but have made it into a sophisticated, grown-up space.

Here’s a suggestion for you: Write a post about that headboard and link it to “DIY Day” at Kimba’s blog (asoftplace.net–DIY Day link-up starts at 10:00 PM on Monday nights) and to “Metamorphosis Monday” at Susan’s blog (betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com). I think people throughout blogdom would love to see this room, and especially love to see this particular project. You might also email Layla Palmer at A Lettered Cottage about this project. Exposure on these blogs would be wonderful–people need to know about your talent!!

    Love you,
    Richella

  8. Katie, I’ve been out of the loop. I just saw that you’ve already written a post about painting furniture and that you included the headboard. But seriously, I think you should link it to the parties I mentioned. Sorry I’ve gotten so behind!

  9. This is awesome! I’m so impressed by the headboard you envisioned and made. Very creative and equally lovely. Congrats!
